Traumatic Brain InjuriesSouth Carolina Traumatic Brain Injury LawyersTraumatic brain injury (TBI), also called acquired brain injury or simply head injury, occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain. Traumatic brain injury can result when the head suddenly and violently hits an object, or when an object pierces the skull and enters brain tissue. Traumatic brain injury may be the result of a car wreck, trucking accident, motorcycle accident, work accident, defective product, or dangerous condition on someone or some business' property. Symptoms of TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. A person with a mild TBI may remain conscious or may experience a loss of consciousness for a few seconds or minutes. Other symptoms of mild traumatic brain injury include headache, confusion, lightheadedness, dizziness, blurred vision or tired eyes, ringing in the ears, bad taste in the mouth, fatigue or lethargy, a change in sleep patterns, behavioral or mood changes, and trouble with memory, concentration, attention, or thinking. However, mild symptoms may actually equate to a moderate or severe injury. A person with a moderate or severe traumatic brain injury may exhibit these symptoms and have symptoms of more serious medical conditions. A person who experienced a moderate or severe traumatic brain injury may have constant headaches, present with vomiting or nausea, convulsions or seizures, and other serious neurological problems. Some of these additional problems include an inability to awaken from sleep, dilation of pupils, slurred speech, weakness or numbness in the extremities, loss of coordination, and increased confusion, restlessness, or agitation. If a loved one has signs of even a mild traumatic brain injury, he or she should be taken immediately to a medical professional to minimize the risks of permanent damage. Because traumatic brain injuries cannot be reversed, many suffering a traumatic brain injury will become disabled with permanent neurological problems, or worse lose consciousness and exist in a persistent vegetative state (coma), or die. Many times, individuals with traumatic brain injuries require expensive medical care for the rest of their lives. Strom Law Firm, LLC will investigate and prosecute civil actions where another party is responsible for causing a traumatic brain injury. Toll Free 888.490.2847
