Synthroid (levothyroxine sodium)

Synthroid is used to treat thyroid disease. It is known generically as levothyroxine sodium. Synthroid has been on the market for over 40 years but is receiving increased scrutiny and review by the Food and Drug Administration and from various consumer groups.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal reported that the FDA is considering removal of Synthroid from the market due to growing concerns patients taking the drug have experienced extreme variations in the amount of Synthroid and these variations have made treatment with the drug ineffective.
