Governor Sanford Nominates New Director of Public Safety Department
Earlier this week Governor Sanford nominated an assistant director of SLED, Mark Keel, to be the new director for the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Keel's nomination is pending a confirmation by the state Senate.
Owner of Southside Residential Care Facility Charged Due to Death of Patient
Roy Bowers, 64, owner of Southside Residential Care Facility in Prosperity, SC was recently charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death, after the death a William Seeley, 59, last Friday. Mr. Seeley died in a Newberry hospital from pneumonia and septic shock, a potentially deadly reaction to severe infection.
SC Attorney General Supports Abolishing Parole
Attorney General Henry McMaster spoke to legislatures on Wednesday about a proposal to abolish the parole system in South Carolina, replacing the state's drug court with a middle court for those sentenced to over 90 days for non-violent offenses.
